What is your connection to the Shark Lab?

Founded the Shark Lab with Doc Gruber. Worked there from 1990 to 2000 off and on as a cook, T-shirt sales and design.

Tell us a story about Doc?

He loves to say, “I’m Doc, they tie boats to me!”  I live with Doc!  Too many stories to tell!

Tell us a story about the Shark Lab?

Doc calls it the “The Love Lab” because there are so many love relationships and marriages that were forged at the lab!  The Shark Lab was the police dormitory before it was the Shark Lab.  And before the police, it was a private home! The concrete slab in front of the lab used to house a barbeque on it!

How did meeting Doc and working at the Shark Lab change your life?

I married Doc, had two daughters, started the lab and that became our life! Both daugthers worked at the Shark Lab for extended periods and still come back to visit with our grandchildren!

As Marie is clearly too modest to admit herself, we decided that we needed to give her credit in posting an extensive gallery of images… Marie is the mother of all scientists, volunteers and students who have spent time at the Shark Lab. Talking about Doc in these pages and through the book, we cannot forget the incredible support, love and sometimes challenging sacrifices that Marie made for her husband, Shark Doc, and for his dream, the Shark Lab. She actually helped shape and made his dream come true in many ways. We would like to thank Marie for everything she has done, everything she is still doing and for all she will do in the future. We love you Marie!
